Tesla owner gets stranded in the desert after relying on phone to start the car

Tesla owner, Las Vegas investor and entrepreneur Ryan Negri learned that the hard way as he got stranded with his Tesla six miles from home near Red Rock Canyon, Nevada. Negri used the Tesla mobile app to start the car at home, and didn’t bring his keys; but when he had to stop and restart the car to adjust a dog seat, there was no cell service, so the start-with-phone method was useless.

While taking your car keys when you go for a drive seems like quite an obvious precaution measure, the technology that makes our lives easier can sometimes make us forget the simplest of things. Sure, it’s nice to be able to unlock and start your Tesla with a phone, but car keys are still a very valid addition to your pocket necessities.

Ski resorts close as too much snow to handle, cripples

Turns out you can have too much of a good thing.

The Lake Tahoe area on the California-Nevada border has been dumped with snow — perfect for the middle of prime skiing and snowboarding season.

But the storm affecting the western U.S. this week is just too much. And the Tahoe resorts just can’t take it. It’s beyond dumping (which is painfully ironic after barely any snow in past years) with another half-foot to a foot more of snow expected in the Sierra Nevada Mountains by Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Almost all of the resorts were closed Wednesday and some had shut down earlier this week because of the storm. At Kirkwood Mountain Resort, operators decided after 9 feet of snow in the past few days they needed time to dig out and keep the mountain safe. In a post Wednesday afternoon they wrote “This has been a #storm for the books,” next to a photo showing one of their lifts almost buried.

Squaw Valley, famous for hosting the 1960 Olympics, said they were out of commission because of a storm-related power outage. The outage was affecting a few other resorts, as well.

At the Sierra-at-Tahoe resort they posted about Wednesday’s closure after more than 3 feet of snow fell in 24 hours. “The conditions that Mother Nature is giving us make it extremely difficult to operate the mountain safely,” they wrote Tuesday afternoon. They added, “Extreme snowfall, low visibility, high winds, and avalanche danger exist all over the mountain.”

That’s the message nearly all the resorts are posting online to eager skiers and snowboarders. The only resort that was operating some lifts seemed to be Heavenly on the Nevada side of the resort. Others posted about expected openings on Thursday.

Meryl Streep WHO? – Dana White Lashes Out at “Uppity” Meryl Streep After MMA and NFL Digs

Meryl Streep didn’t just take a dig at President-elect Donald Trump in her speech at last night’s Golden Globe Awards. The actress also dissed fans of football and MMA fighting.

And UFC President Dana White is not happy about it.

Calling the actress an “uppity, 80-year-old lady,” White said he’s not surprised to find out Streep isn’t in the UFC’s top demographic.

“So Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners,” Streep said as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award. “And if we kick them all out you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”

White, a Trump supporter, responded telling TMZ, “Of course it’s an art. These fighters, these men and women are so talented…saying something stupid like that is like saying…she’s not a talented actress which she is.”

He added, “We have fighters from all over the world…She’s not educated about the sport and that was a completely uneducated comment.”

Michigan man gets $128 ticket for heating up car in own driveway

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) – Did you know you could get fined for heating up your car? One man’s parking ticket has gone viral, with thousands of views after he was ticketed for heating up his car in his own driveway.

Taylor Trupiano says he’s still shaking his head over a parking ticket he got on his own property.

“I thought it was some kind of joke at first, and then I was thrown back by it,” he said. “I was really surprised.”

The ticket was for leaving the keys in the ignition with the motor running and no one around. Trupiano said he was only doing something many people in Michigan do during the winter.

“I was in and out in probably about 7-8 minutes,” he added. “So in that amount of time he ran up here, gave me a ticket and by the time I got out he was nowhere to be seen.”
